Tutu Diaries: BROOKE LOCKETT

We sat down with Brooke Lockett and her gorgeous little bub Violet to talk all things life, becoming a new mum and her exciting 12 year career as a professional ballerina for the Australian Ballet Company.

"I come from Country Victoria and was fortunate enough to be able to travel the world, living out my childhood dream. After I retired, I had a little moment where I dabbled in property development and real estate for a while, and then after meeting my now Fiancé, soon to be husband, We were very lucky to have a beautiful baby girl 9 months ago… So now I’m just a mum."

Tell us a little about your Daughter & Family

Violet is a dream come true. I think for me being a mum, I feel as comfortable as I did on stage which was always my beautiful, safe place, somewhere I always loved being and I feel very comfortable in the role as a mum. I have a beautiful partner who is kind and encouraging and is this great love that I always dreamed of, and It’s even more than that, its deeper than that, It’s beautiful. I have two beautiful stepchildren from my partners previous marriage. They’re older and we are literally a Modern-day family. They have a beautiful mum and I feel really lucky that Violet is surrounded by so much love and such beautiful personalities.

How did you discover Tutu du Monde?

A few years ago now, I was really lucky, Andrea invited me to be a part of one of their events to be the ballerina and give a ballet class to these beautiful little girls and I’m fortunate that I’ve been around little budding ballerinas quite a lot in my career with teaching and mentoring that sort of thing. But this event and what Tutu du Monde does and creates is so magical and I said to Andrea, something happens when a little girl steps into one of her pieces – she just twirls and looks at herself in this beautiful, dreamy, magical moment that takes place and I feel fortunate that I got to spend a career dressing up in tutus and I always felt so beautiful in ballet costumes. What I love is I already knew of her brand, but once I met Andrea and this beautiful, gentle soul that she is, and it comes from such an organic place, now being a mum and knowing what you can’t find I the market and the fact that that’s where her brand grew is beautiful and she creates such magic for little girls.

The way I discovered Tutu du Monde was, I was already aware of the brand, with it’s social media presence but once I met Andrea, she had invited me to come and take part in one of her events and It was just the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

You have had a prior relationship with Tutu du Monde.

What does it mean now to be able to dress your daughter in the brand?

To now be able to dress Violet in Tutu du Monde is so beautiful. I was a girly girl, my mum was a girly girl, my Grandma was a girly girl, I think there’s something so beautiful about putting a girl in Tutu du Monde and the sort of magic that it creates. Everyone always says how beautiful violet looks in one of her outfits.

Andrea actually gifted us the most beautiful little dress, and it’s funny because she didn’t know that we were calling her Violet and she just so happened to give us the most beautiful violet coloured little Tutu which was her first tutu, so Robby and I were like, This is so special.. and I actually put her in that tutu for her first Father’s day, so it was beautiful.

Why Tutu du Monde?

I think with Tutu du Monde it’s the materials and the delicateness about how it’s made. There’s a lot out there and you can come across a lot of tutus, but obviously for me and my background with tutus, there’s something so special about Tutu du Monde, It’s got the wow-factor with the beautiful delicate finishing touches and just as I did when I put a tutu on, I can see how young girls feel beautiful and feminine and elegant.
